IWD 2021: How did you choose to challenge?

International Women’s Day marked annually on March 8th is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.

Significant activity is witnessed worldwide as groups come together to celebrate women’s achievements or rally for women’s equality.

And that’s exactly what Enterprise did with activity across the UK designed to celebrate and support women in the workplace.

Here is our round-up of some of the key moments.

Breaking Barriers was a one day student conference designed to maintain and raise the aspirations of undergraduates approaching their education finish line and planning to enter the workplace after an exceptionally tough year. Keynote speaker Hayley Bennett, an award-winning DE&I expert, shared insights on success in the workplace from a gender perspective. She also led a panel of senior leaders from Enterprise, Nestlé and Siemens in a discussion on how businesses are building more gender balanced workplaces.

A toolkit collecting key themes of the event and expanding on the content presented, with social media contact details of all the speakers for easy networking as well as links to watch all the sessions and many other extra resources was distributed to students who attended. More importantly, it drove home a key message: let's keep the conversation going and share ideas that will ultimately lead to a more inclusive society for us all – share your thoughts, learnings and questions: #BreakingBarriers2021 #ChooseToChallenge.

A video featuring how Enterprise directors 'chose to challenge' aspects of unconscious bias that especially affect women in the workplace was shared on the Enterprise internal social app, Pulse.

Alongside, articles by UK99's Enterprising Women explaining each bias in detail were published on DRIVE and shared extensively through Pulse and social media. You can read all of these articles in our IWD 2021 special edition of DRIVE.

"Choosing to challenge is for everyday - not just for International Women's Day"
